Every time a player appears on screen, their boots become a focal point. adidas has responded with the Mercury Pack, an updated collection of elite lace-free boots designed for the biggest matches of the season.
All three adidas football boot lines – X, Messi, and ACE – share a defining feature on their top-tier models: the complete removal of laces. Both the X and Messi lines have received a generation update one year after their initial launch.
adidas X16+ Purechaos: One-Piece Upper and New Collar

The boot features a new TechFit collar made from neoprene. This design reduces lace pressure while offering better side support and improved fit. The Sprintframe outsole returns, equipped with semi-conical cleats that facilitate aggressive turns and provide extra traction during fast-paced situations.
adidas Messi 16+ Pureagility: Thread Framework and Updated Collar

The key update is a framework made from thread, similar to the Primeknit used on the ACE Primeknit line. This thread framework also covers the laces, just like on the X16+ Purechaos. The material is very thin, flexible, and soft, offering outstanding comfort and a snug fit.
This model is now equipped with a TechFit collar – a feature absent from the previous generation. The collar design is less aggressive than the X model’s but is made from the same neoprene material. The outsole has not been modified, as it already met all the requirements specified by the Argentinian star.
adidas ACE 16+ Purecontrol: Colour Refresh for the Mercury Pack
For the ACE 16+ Purecontrol boots, the new Mercury Pack represents only a change of colour. This line was already updated in January 2016, when it introduced the first lace-free football boot made from thread. Today it remains a best-selling product.
These boots, which will be worn by Atlético de Madrid player Koke during the UEFA Champions League final, feature a silver finish that will not go unnoticed. Other high-profile players such as Ivan Rakitic and Paul Pogba will also wear them during the 2016 Euro Cup in France.
