The adidas Predator Accelerator Hyperlative Pack

The adidas Predator Accelerator returns once again as part of the Hyperlative Pack, more than two years after its previous remake. Originally launched in 1998, the silhouette became one of the most iconic football boots in history. The new edition brings back the classic design with modern updates, appealing to players who remember the original and those discovering it for the first time.

The Legacy of the 1998 Predator Accelerator

The 1998 Predator Accelerator set a benchmark for performance and style. In July and August 2018, adidas released two remakes that were widely considered releases of the year. The first, the Yellow Electricity colourway, was a massive hit due to the difficulty of obtaining the original. The second remake featured the classic black/red/white colourway and was a virtually exact replica of the 1998 model, using Kangaroo leather and the same cuts.

This approach differed from the 2014 adidas “Revenge Pack”, which was a very good remake but used a seamless upper with heat-sealed panels and Hybrid Touch material instead of kangaroo leather.

The Eternal Class Predator Accelerator release that preceded this Hyperlative Pack went largely unnoticed, possibly due to its black colour scheme.

Design and Materials of the Hyperlative Pack

The design of the Hyperlative Pack centres on the adidas Predator Freak+ boot from the Superlative Pack, but with a focus on the Accelerator silhouette. The natural leather upper is a standout feature, carrying the distinctive “Predator Element” – rubber panels running along the toe of the boot. This technology, first introduced in 1994 on the original adidas Predator, has become smaller over time but remains a cornerstone of adidas’s marketing strategy and is intended to help generate greater speed and spin on shots with curve.

The 1998 version featured a smaller tongue compared to earlier square tongues that completely covered the laces. The red colour of the tongue remains an icon of the brand. The exterior redesign includes elongated adidas stripes, making the boot look even more impressive than its predecessor.

Key Differences from the Original

The 2021 Predator Accelerator from the Hyperlative Pack incorporates several updates while preserving its classic identity. It uses so-called “mouse-tail” laces, where the ends are wider than the section that applies tightening pressure – a change from the original laces. The studs have also evolved: the 1998 version had iconic laminated studs (shown symbolically on the insole), while the current model uses conical studs. The modern soleplate is better, lighter, and adapted to today’s playing surfaces, emphasising that these boots are designed for playing football, not for display.

Performance and Everyday Comfort

adidas extends its football designs to street shoes, incorporating cushioning technology that offers comfort beyond the pitch. This attention to detail is appreciated by fans who want both performance and everyday wearability.
