Adidas follows up the Energy Mode Pack with a special second version of the Predator football boot for the knockout stage of the 2018 World Cup. This edition draws directly from the design of the official Telstar match ball, using white and red accents as a nod to the host country. The boot is also known as “MECHTA”, the Russian word for “dream”.
Design and World Cup Inspiration
The updated Predator features a pixelated graphical look in the brand’s signature colors, with the three adidas stripes applied in a gold tone. On the heel, the World Cup logo appears in gold against a black background, echoing the color of the ultimate prize.
Upper Construction and Materials
The boot retains the technical foundation seen on other recent Predator models. A soft Primeknit upper is enhanced with a 3‑D finish in the forefoot, created through multiple fabric layers. This area is fully covered by a thin synthetic lining that adidas calls ControlSkin.
Soleplate and Cushioning
The outsole remains functionally identical to previous releases, employing a ControlFrame plate paired with Boost cushioning. Boost material is also present in the inner insole. The soleplate itself is finished in matte gold and black, giving the boot a striking visual appearance.
