Adidas has applied slick matte and chrome finishes underfoot on recent Purespeed editions, but this version achieves the most balanced look. The dark mirror-like effect underfoot dramatically upgrades the traditional black upper. In hand, the visual combination produces one of the best colorways in the series, provided one appreciates the finer points of a heritage-style boot.
Performance
Built primarily for speed, the upper is not cushioned but offers a natural feel when controlling the ball. Hidden laces beneath the upper layer create a flat, smooth surface that leaves little room for excuses on errant passes. The SprintFrame outsole and stud configuration enable quick direction changes, and with the correct sizing, the boot helps prevent sliding inside the boot or rolling the ankle.
Fit and Comfort
The X17+ Purespeed has the most spacious fit among adidas boots. The upper style accommodates players with wider feet. Even with a medium-to-wide foot, some lateral movement was noted during play. While personal preference varies, those who prefer a snug feel may consider going down half a size for a more secure fit. Despite being a speed-oriented cleat, comfort is surprisingly high. No break-in period was required, no blisters occurred despite the movement, and the Purecut sock adds to overall comfort. A higher-positioned tab at the back simplifies getting in and out of the boot.
Durability
Based on experience with the silo (not this specific colorway), the boots were worn for daily training over three weeks in five to six sessions per week. Despite initial concerns about the upper material’s ability to withstand high temperatures, high-intensity training, and aggressive tackles, the cleats showed no signs of deterioration or scuffing.
