Spanish football legend Andres Iniesta has ended his long-standing partnership with Nike to sign a multi-year sponsorship deal with Japanese sportswear and footwear giant ASICS. The move marks a new chapter in Iniesta’s career, as he also takes on an advisory role in product development and will receive his own limited-edition signature boot.
End of an Era: Iniesta Leaves Nike After 19 Years
Iniesta’s switch to ASICS brings to a close a sponsorship relationship with Nike that spanned nearly two decades. The Barcelona icon had been with the American brand since early in his professional career. Since moving to Japan to play for J-League club Vissel Kobe, Iniesta had remained relatively quiet on the endorsement front—until now.
Iniesta’s Role and Signature Boot
At a press conference announcing the deal, Iniesta expressed his excitement about joining ASICS, citing shared values and a hands-on opportunity to influence product design.
“I am extremely excited to be part of the Asics family, a brand that represents values and convictions similar to mine as an athlete. My boots are my most important tools. I was impressed by Asics’ passion and the fact that I get to be involved in product development.”
As part of the agreement, Iniesta will receive a signature edition of the ASICS DS Light X-Fly 4, featuring Vissel Kobe’s team color, crimson red. The limited-edition boot is set to go on sale in November. Additionally, Iniesta will serve in an advisory capacity for future product development.
