Mexican sportswear brand Charly has released the Charly Encore RL, a soccer cleat that marks the company’s first model produced entirely in Mexico. The RL in the name stands for Recycled Leather, and the upper is crafted from 100% Mexican leather sourced from Cotexa Ecologia, a supplier of recycled leather based in Guanajuato.
Sustainable Materials and Biodegradable Design
The Encore RL stands out for its soft, supple leather upper, a material not commonly found in other cleats on the market. Beyond the premium feel, the cleat is constructed from biodegradable, compostable, and 100% recyclable materials, making it an environmentally conscious choice for players.
Heritage-Inspired Color and Performance Features
A notable design detail is the green accent color, which pays homage to the leather tanneries of León. According to the Managing Director of CHARLY USA, Jason Wells, “The green color is intricately tied with the region and the soccer team’s local nickname, the Green Bellies. With the Encore RL, CHARLY beautifully pairs rich heritage with high performance.”
On the pitch, the Encore RL features a conical stud pattern designed to enhance changes of direction on both firm ground and turf surfaces. The stud layout aims to help players cut cleaner and faster with or without the ball. In addition, the cleat incorporates a high-compression tongue made with MotionKnit technology, which provides an ultra-plus fit during play.
