Cristiano Ronaldo's boot saga comes to an end

In October 2015, Nike launched an exclusive boot for Cristiano Ronaldo, the first of seven special models that would trace key moments in the Portuguese forward’s career. With the 2018/2019 season – and a new stage in Ronaldo’s trajectory – the last instalment arrives under the name “Final Chapter”.

Design and Colourway

The prevailing colour is an orangy red, but the boot’s details carry the real significance. The Swoosh appears in its usual position along the outer lateral, alongside a smaller second logo. Both logos and the heel area feature a finish that imitates carbon fibre.

Carbon Fibre Tribute

Why carbon fibre? The Nike Mercurial Vapor SL from 2008 – made with carbon fibre for the upper and sole – were the first exclusive boots Ronaldo wore, for just one match: the Champions League final he won with Manchester United against Chelsea. In that game, Ronaldo headed a goal and missed a penalty. Today, those boots are the hardest Nike boots to acquire.

The Number 7 and Signature Details

Near the base of the boot, a gradient silver effect is created using the number 7 – Cristiano Ronaldo’s longstanding number. The 7 also appears in the heel counter alongside his signature. Also in the heel counter, the number 0000015 indicates how many times CR7 has worn exclusive boots.

Sole Plate

The sole remains the element that changes least. The two-piece anatomic plate has a dark grey, almost black finish with a chromed effect. This is the most aggressive sole currently available, and the Mercurial line is the only one betting on such sharp-shaped studs to maximise a player’s speed.

Concealed Insole Detail

Inside the boot, the insole includes a logo that combines the seven former logos of the saga, which began in 2015 with the Nike Mercurial Superfly IV and ends in 2018, two boot generations later, with the Nike Mercurial Superfly VI.
