Nike ACG’s collaboration with Inter Milan introduced more than a striking signal‑orange kit. The real innovation was a nomadic pitch system built to be deployed on sand, snow, rocky ground, or other difficult surfaces without requiring a permanent location, permission, or groundskeeper.
Design Philosophy: A Pitch for Any Terrain
The modular, adaptive system was created by Amsterdam Berlin GmbH, led by creative director and founder Moritz Grub. It was designed not for pristine grass but for “the in‑between spaces” – a contraption, as Grub describes it, “to bring football to the wild.”
Portability was not a gimmick but the starting point. The kit uses interchangeable foot attachments that allow installation on different terrain, can be height‑adjusted, and can be levelled on uneven ground. “It can live anywhere,” Grub notes.
Inspired by Outdoor Equipment
The engineering borrows from lightweight tents and other temporary structures used in professional outdoor contexts. These structures are designed to go up fast, hold their own, and leave little trace – the same philosophy applied to a football pitch that does not depend on infrastructure or a permanent postcode.
Tested in Winter Conditions
The initial Inter × ACG event leaned into the system’s purpose. Instead of using manicured turf, the brand deployed the pitch in winter terrain, letting players test it against snow underfoot and cold air – exactly the elements it was built for. The orange framework sliced through the white landscape.
Functional Aesthetics: The Role of Orange
The signal‑orange colour is a classic ACG identifier, now emphasised in the brand’s relaunch. For the ACG Inter collaboration, orange also served a technical purpose: great visibility in snow or any other condition. Aesthetics met survival instinct, in typical ACG fashion.
