New Balance has crafted a special edition of the Tekela v2 to mark the 25th anniversary of SOCCER.COM, the United States’ leading online retailer for soccer footwear. The collaboration honors the company’s journey from its founding as Eurosport to securing the SOCCER.COM domain on November 14, 1994, and its growth into a family-owned institution within the US soccer community.
The Story Behind the Collaboration
Both New Balance and SOCCER.COM share family-owned, American-born roots. The limited edition cleats were designed to symbolize these shared values. The design features a Risk Red and Silver colorway that represents the mutual principles of the two brands.
Design and Details
The cleats are packed with intricate detailing that makes them one of a kind:
- Soleplate inscriptions: The words “innovate” and “inspire” are printed on the soleplates, reflecting the guiding values of both companies.
- Aglet tributes: The initials of the Moylan family parents – who fostered the teenage dream of starting a soccer business – appear on each lace tip.
- Numbered series: Each pair is individually numbered as one of 94, a nod to the 1994 founding year.
- Heritage motifs: Stars, stripes and shamrocks decorate the cleats, celebrating the family’s proud Irish American heritage.
Special Packaging and Presentation
Beyond the cleats themselves, the release comes with a premium presentation box in the same striking red. Included are a hand-signed note from the Moylans and a commemorative medallion coin featuring both SOCCER.COM and New Balance logos. The medallion idea was inspired by Mike Moylan, who uncovered a few he had saved from the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States.
