Sadio Mané and New Balance Football have unveiled a limited edition Furon v5 “Maagum” boot that honours the Senegalese forward’s heritage. The name “Maagum” means “Rise” in Wolof, referencing the ‘Simb of Senegal’—an artistic ritual that marks a man’s transformation into a lion.
The Story Behind “Maagum”
Only 405 pairs of the limited edition boot are being produced. Each pair represents one kilometre of the journey Mané made from his hometown of Bambaly to the Senegalese capital, Dakar, to attend his first football trials. The Liverpool FC attacker later joined a Senegalese football academy, where his journey to becoming a lion began.
Senegal forward Sadio Mané said:
“I’m so proud to have a boot that celebrates my connection to my homeland. New Balance’s design team have done a fantastic job of creating a design that represents my football journey and my Senegalese heritage.”

The boot is available as a limited run of 405 pairs, celebrating Mané’s personal football journey from Bambaly to Dakar.
