New Nike Mercurial Vapor 17 and Superfly 11: Two Boots, Two Meanings of Speed
Nike has introduced the next generation of its Mercurial speed boot line, splitting the franchise into two distinct models: the Vapor 17 and the Superfly 1

Nike has introduced the next generation of its Mercurial speed boot line, splitting the franchise into two distinct models: the Vapor 17 and the Superfly 11. Both silhouettes arrive ahead of a major summer tournament, and each takes a different approach to helping players create separation on the pitch. The Vapor focuses on agility in crowded areas, while the Superfly is tuned for explosive acceleration in open space.

Two Silhouettes, Two Speed Profiles
Modern football demands speed in many forms. Sharp turns in traffic, sudden bursts from a standstill, and repeated high-intensity efforts late in a match all require different physical qualities. Nike’s research into acceleration, deceleration, recovery energy, and repeated sprint actions informed the split design of the latest Mercurial collection.
Vapor 17 – Precision in Tight Spaces
The Vapor 17 is the lightest Mercurial ever made. Its design strips away anything unnecessary to maximize responsiveness. The Atomknit upper and ultra-thin FlyLite plate create a minimal feel underfoot. The stud layout is built for aggressive stop-start movements and quick changes of direction. Visually, the boot retains the clean, recognisable Mercurial aesthetic while focusing on functionality in congested areas.

Superfly 11 – Engineered for Open-Field Acceleration
The Superfly 11 targets players who thrive when running into space. Its defining feature is a visible external Air Zoom unit under the forefoot, designed to compress and rebound with each stride. Nike has also reworked the surrounding structure to improve stability without losing flexibility. The upper uses FlyWeave Ultra material for a lightweight, locked-in fit. Notably, the Superfly drops the Dynamic Fit collar and returns to a low-cut design for the first time since 2014, evoking the era of Cristiano Ronaldo’s early Real Madrid years.

Development Driven by Running Innovation
Nike’s footwear expertise from running technology directly influenced the Mercurial line. The brand studied not just top speed but also deceleration, recovery energy, and the ability to repeat high-intensity actions over 90 minutes. According to James Molyneux, Senior Director of Football Footwear Innovation at Nike, the modern game requires players to be fast in different ways, and the two-tool Mercurial approach is designed to help athletes create space when it matters most. The visible Air Zoom system, he explained, is intended to give players confidence to push themselves repeatedly, especially when the match opens up in the later stages.

The Nike Mercurial Vapor 17 and Superfly 11 are scheduled for release on 1 June.
