With the FIFA Women’s World Cup taking place this summer, Nike has gone beyond a simple color update and introduced the first football boots in the brand’s history created entirely for women. Designed for Women, Available for All
The Nike Phantom Luna marks a milestone in football boot design by being the first model from Nike built specifically around the female foot shape. The sizing follows women’s standards, but the boots are not exclusive to women. Players of any gender can wear them provided they find the right fit.
Upper and Gripknit Technology
The upper of the new Nike Phantom Luna is made from Gripknit, the same elastic material used on the Phantom GX. Gripknit features a sticky, water-resistant coating designed to deliver a sensational feel on the ball. On top of this material, Nike has introduced various textured zones in the striking areas, helping to prevent the ball from slipping upon contact.
Lacing and Fit Innovations

The same Flyknit material also hosts what is arguably the most important aesthetic detail of the new Nike Phantom Luna: the Swoosh. The logo is placed vertically, starting from the outside of the ankle. This orientation gives the brand’s emblem a striking, almost entirely different look.
Nike Cyclone 360 Outsole
From the most notable design detail to the most important functional feature: the soleplate. Named Nike Cyclone 360, it is, to say the least, unique. The rear section is not new—four bladed studs arranged in a circle. However, the forefoot is pure innovation. It features bladed studs, with five forming a circle near the toe and two in a secondary plane to aid traction. An X-shaped stabilizing bridge connects everything, creating an engineering work that remains to be seen how users of the Nike Phantom Luna will adapt to.
