Neymar Jr. added another milestone to his legendary career during Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Bolivia in Belém. With two goals, he surpassed Pelé as Brazil’s all-time leading scorer. The match also marked the debut of a special boot created with children from his own Instituto Neymar Jr., blending football records with a story of community and creativity.
New Record: Brazil’s All-Time Leading Goalscorer
In a pulsating match held in the Amazon city of Belém, Neymar Jr. scored two goals to bring his international tally to 79 goals in 125 appearances. This eclipsed the previous record of 77 goals set by Pelé between 1957 and 1971. The achievement cemented Neymar’s place in football history as Brazil’s all-time leading scorer.
A Boot with a Deeper Purpose
The Al Hilal forward wore a special edition of PUMA’s FUTURE INJR cleats during the record-breaking match. The boots are part of the PUMA Neymar Instituto Pack, created in collaboration with the Instituto Neymar Jr. – a community center founded by Neymar Jr. in his childhood neighborhood of Praia Grande, near Santos. The Instituto has provided sports, education, and healthcare to underprivileged youth since its launch in 2014.
Designed by Children, Worn by a Star
For this collection, PUMA gave creative control to children from the Instituto. They were asked to capture what “Neymar means to them.” Their sketches, drawings, and admiration were translated into the graphics on the FUTURE INJR boots. The young artists’ names appear on the insoles of the boots and on the back neck of the collection’s t-shirt. From drawing board to global stage, the project took approximately 18 months.
Neymar Jr. said of the collaboration: “The Instituto is my heart’s project. From its inception in 2014, we’ve touched lives, offering sports, education, and healthcare. It’s a sanctuary for these kids, a space of growth, learning, and dreams. To co-create a collection with them? It’s more than just design; it’s their dreams, hopes, and admiration reflecting on me. When I wear these boots, I wear their aspirations.”
Design and Technology of the FUTURE INJR Boot
The FUTURE INJR football boot features an adaptive FUZIONFIT360 upper made from a combination of dual mesh, stretchy knit, and PWRTAPE for an impeccable fit. Designed to be worn with or without laces, the boot includes 3D textures optimized for ball grip and control. Its dual-density Dynamic Motion System outsole provides stability, agility, and traction. In line with sustainability goals, at least 20% of the boot’s materials are recycled.
Beyond the Record
As Neymar Jr. continues to rewrite history on the pitch, his partnership with PUMA and the Instituto shows a lasting impact off it. The FUTURE INJR boots carry the dreams, aspirations, and hopes of the children who helped create them – a reminder that football can inspire change far beyond the final whistle.
