Nike Football has updated the naming structure across its entire boot silo lineup, replacing a confusing mix of tier-specific names with a uniform system. The change, introduced with the new Fast AF collection, aims to make price levels easier for customers to understand at a glance. Instead of different names for each pricing tier within every silo—often leading to overlap and confusion—Nike now uses four clear labels: Elite, Pro, Academy, and Club. The update also clarifies the presence of Dynamic Fit technology with a simple “DF” suffix.

The Old Naming System and Confusion

Previously, each of Nike’s four silos—Tiempo, Mercurial, Hypervenom, and Magista—used its own set of names for different price levels. For example, the Tiempo line had Legend at the top tier, followed by Legacy, then Ligera and Rio. The Mercurial range split its top tier between Superfly and Vapor, while the mid tier included Veloce and Veloce DF, distinguished only by the presence or absence of a Dynamic Fit collar. This resulted in a large table full of contradictions, where the same name could appear at different price points across silos. The complexity made it hard for shoppers to quickly know which boot fit their budget.

The New Naming Structure

With the latest collection, Nike has standardized the naming across all silos. The four price levels are now:

  • Elite – the top-tier, premium model
  • Pro – professional-grade offering
  • Academy – mid-tier option
  • Club – the most affordable entry-level boot

The suffix “DF” (Dynamic Fit) is used across the board to indicate models with a built-in sock collar, except in the Mercurial silo, where the distinction is maintained with the familiar names Superfly (with Dynamic Fit) and Vapor (without Dynamic Fit). This preserves the heritage of the Vapor name as the oldest and most sought-after speed boot in Nike’s history.

Nike has also retired the name “Opus” for the Magista line, following a similar move that saw “Phinish” disappear from the Hypervenom range when the third generation was released. The new Pro and Academy names, which did not exist before, expand the availability of boots at each price level, making it easier for players to find a model suited to their needs and budget.
