Few past football boots generate as much conversation as the Nike Lunar Gato II, and no previous futsal model has been as widely requested. After years of calls from fans, the iconic silo is back.

2019 Release: A Faithful Comeback
The re‑released Nike Tiempo Lunar Gato II does not introduce technical upgrades over the 2015 version. It returns unchanged, using the same materials and construction. The first colorway is a special edition available from February 18, followed by a definitive edition launching in April that will remain part of the permanent lineup. Unlike retro releases from other brands, this is not a remake but a direct re‑issue.

Professional players who wore the original were clear about its strengths. Ricardinho, Cardinali, Rivillos, Bateria, and Saad Ferrao all trusted the Lunar Gato II for its outstanding on‑court performance. While some later switched to the MagistaX Proximo, the boot that ultimately replaced the Lunar Gato, the earlier model’s performance remained difficult to match.

Technologies and Construction
Upper
The instep uses smooth, pliable natural leather for a precise touch when striking or controlling the ball. The boot is built for durability with gussets in the toe cap and lateral panels. Hyperfuse technology combined with mesh on the sides reduces weight and improves breathability. The lateral bands include additional gussets that add rigidity to better withstand the lateral movements common in futsal.

Sole – Pure Ergonomy
The outsole is divided into three zones, each with a tread pattern tailored to specific court needs. The outer forefoot features small perforations to maximize grip during contact. The inner forefoot uses a line‑based design to aid pivoting and support. The heel employs a similar but more widely spaced line pattern for increased stability.

Midsole – Lunarlon
The midsole gives the boot its name. Lunarlon, Nike’s signature cushioning, first appeared in 2018 on the Lunarglide running shoe and was the brand’s most groundbreaking technology until React arrived in 2017. In the Lunar Gato II, a soft injected foam core sits inside a lightweight structure, distributing impact evenly across the sole. This reduces pressure on the heels and metatarsal bones, the areas that undergo the most stress. The technology was retained in futsal boots for two main reasons: durability (Nike’s futsal plates are noticeably thicker than those used in other sports) and elasticity, which adds the reactive response needed for the game.

The return of the Nike Tiempo Lunar Gato II signals that the brand is paying attention to what both the masses and elite players want. This re‑release is widely seen as a positive development for the futsal community.
