The latest Nike Mercurial range introduces a clear split between its two elite models. The Vapor and Superfly now offer separate upper constructions and fit profiles, while the high-cut collar has been removed entirely. Both boots are designed to maximise speed and ball control through new materials and outsoles.
Nike Mercurial Vapor
The Vapor targets a narrow fit and uses a newly developed upper material called AtomKnit. This replaces GripKnit and aims to balance lightweight feel with surface texture for grip at high speeds. The result is a snug hold that still allows precise touch on the ball.
A nylon soleplate delivers a responsive feel that references the 2014 Mercurial generation. The stud layout follows the traditional Mercurial pattern, keeping the boot true to its lineage.
Nike Mercurial Superfly
The Superfly represents the more aggressive option in the range. Its upper uses Flyweave Ultra, a material inspired by earlier lace-up boot designs. This construction shapes the entire upper to provide a secure fit while keeping weight extremely low.
Additional grip is built into the upper surface, and the last is slightly wider than the Vapor’s, improving comfort for players who prefer a roomier toe box.
The outsole introduces a new Air Zoom plate that is more aggressive in its placement than the previous version. The plate works with ZoomX foam to deliver high-energy return and cushioning underfoot.
Traction comes from a three‑block stud pattern, one of the most aggressive on the market when combined with the ZoomX foam.
The two Mercurial variants stay true to the silhouette’s core purpose: making players feel quicker and lighter. Both models deliver on that promise, reinforcing the Mercurial’s reputation as a benchmark for speed-focused football boots.
