Nike Football continues its Black History Month tradition with a new exclusive boot for 2018. After previous releases on the Mercurial Superfly IV and Magista Obra, the American sportswear giant now brings the design to the Mercurial Vapor model. The collection honours the fight of black athletes and supports the Nike Ever Higher Foundation, which works to provide second chances for marginalized young people.
Previous Black History Month Releases
The first Black History Month edition debuted as a super exclusive version of the Mercurial Superfly IV in black and white. One year later, the Magista Obra received a treatment widely regarded as one of its best decorations up to that point.
2018 Nike Mercurial Vapor BHM Design
For 2018, Nike has chosen the Mercurial Vapor as the base for the Black History Month collection. The dominant colour is black, with curved lines of different colours distributed across the Teijin upper. The BHM logo appears on the laces, and the word “Equality” can be seen on the sole of both boots.
Limited Release and Player Exclusives
This exclusive version of the Nike Mercurial Vapor BHM boots is only available in this specific configuration. It will not appear on Superfly or mid-tier versions. Very few units have been produced for the public, and only two professional players are set to wear them on the pitch: Dani Alves and Kevin Prince Boateng.
Technical Features and Equality Message
The technical characteristics remain unchanged from the standard Mercurial Vapor, with Nike focusing entirely on the decorative treatment. The Equality message on the soleplate reinforces the collection’s theme of social justice and inclusion.
