Nike has revived the iconic Safari print on a special edition Mercurial Superfly CR7 “Safari” boot, marking the 10th anniversary of Cristiano Ronaldo’s first signature boot that originally featured the pattern. The design first appeared on performance football footwear in November 2010 and quickly became a pitch classic.
The Return of Safari Print
The Safari print originated on the 1987 Air Safari, designed by Tinker Hatfield. When it debuted on the Mercurial Vapor Superfly II in 2010, the creative boot design generated immediate buzz among fans. The distinctive pattern features a tonal reflective and non-reflective chevron overlay that catches the light.
Design Features
The 2020 Nike Mercurial Superfly CR7 Safari closely mirrors the original Safari Print Mercurial Vapor Superfly II, with a few visual updates. The sockliner now includes CR7’s famous celebration stance, his signature, and his logo. A special pigment on the Elite version highlights the chevron pattern of the Mercurial Superfly.
Release Information
A kids’ edition of the boot keeps the traditional white, black, and orange Safari color scheme. This version launched in China on May 15th, coinciding with the 10th birthday of Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. Limited quantities of the Nike Mercurial Superfly Elite FG CR7 Safari adult version will release globally on June 17th, alongside an exclusive kids apparel collection.
