Nike has launched the Phantom GX, a new silo in the Phantom franchise featuring an electric colorway and innovative upper technology. The boot introduces Gripknit yarn for enhanced touch, weather resistance, and a versatile stud pattern designed for multidirectional movement.
New Gripknit Upper for Better Ball Control
The Phantom GX upper is constructed with Nike’s latest Gripknit innovation. The soft, pliable yarn creates a grippy sensation that improves boot-to-ball connection. The melted and coated construction protects the knit from water absorption without requiring additional coating materials (skins), offering unique weatherization benefits. Inspired by a fingerprint, the upper package delivers tackiness for sharp ball control while maintaining flexibility.
To achieve an optimal performance balance between grip and clean ball contact, the design team combined Nike Gripknit with high-tenacity yarns in key boot-to-ball contact areas. This ratio helps athletes play with greater precision.
Asymmetric Collar and Heel Design for Comfort
The Gripknit yarns also enable a new fit system. An asymmetric collar and heel design reduces irritation and makes break-in easier by moving the heel seam away from the Achilles. The Phantom GX is the first elite Nike boot at retail to feature a heel counter previously reserved for sponsored Nike athletes. A recess in the heel improves lockdown comfort without compromising stability and structure.
Dynamic Fit Model with Ghost Lace System
The Dynamic Fit version reintroduces Nike’s Ghost Lace covered lacing system, originally seen in the Phantom Vision 1 and 2 models. Combined with Nike Gripknit, it provides a thin, connected upper with a clean striking surface.
Versatile Agility Plate for Multidirectional Movement
Underfoot, the Phantom GX agility plate is the most versatile in Nike’s football lineup. It features 13 studs, including five Tri-star studs, creating the highest stud variation of any Nike boot. This bold plate optimizes traction and responsiveness during quick cuts, helping athletes separate from opponents on the pitch.
