The Nike Phantom VSN football boots arrive for 2018 as part of a new line designed to increase the sensation of contact with the ball and improve player precision. This is achieved through new technologies and materials in both the upper and the chassis, focusing on fit and touch. Players such as Philippe Coutinho, Kevin De Bruyne, and Sergio Busquets will wear these boots.
Upper Construction
The upper uses the renowned Flyknit thread, similar to the Mercurial and Hypervenom lines. However, the Phantom upper has a modified texture with an infinitely smoother finish that does not require break-in. The inside lateral features a wrinkled finish for more grip to control the ball and improve passes. All of this is covered by ACC technology, which protects and waterproofs the entire upper.
Seamless Texture Zones
Despite having sections with different textures, there are no multiple seams. Nike now designs these textures inside a single section to avoid seams that may tear due to erosion. The most elastic area of the upper is placed in the instep to make it easier to put the foot into the boot. This area also covers the laces, creating a completely interference-free vamp, even though the boots are not laceless.
Chassis and Fit
The chassis is covered by the upper, making the construction a two‑piece boot joined only by the plate. A new QUADFIT technology appears here: an inner mesh placed over the chassis (also made with Flyknit) in the laterals of the boot. This mesh serves a double function of fit and stability. Six eyelets, with the same function as the Briocables, are positioned in this area.
Outsole and Stud Pattern
The new plate is ultra‑light and reactive, helping to reduce the overall weight of the boot and maximise the energy from the player’s legs. The stud layout combines traditional and modern elements: 14 studs are placed at points of lesser pressure, while 3 studs are distributed in the big toe area to form a circle that favours spins. Additionally, 4 bladed studs are added in the heel for extra stability.
The new Nike Phantom Vision will be available from today.
