Nike has unveiled the PhantomVSN, a boot designed to replace the Magista silo. With a focus on fit and a revolutionary inside-out construction, the PhantomVSN introduces the proprietary Quadfit mesh, a ghost lacing system, and a traction pattern engineered for quick cuts. The initial blackout colorway signals a complex new direction for the brand.

General Details

The PhantomVSN is built for players Nike describes as “a battler who has mastered the art of navigating tight spaces while possessing the vision for attack lanes others may not see.” Key features include a laceless appearance with a hidden lacing system, a new fit-first design philosophy, and a blackout introductory colorway.

Inside-Out Design Strategy

Rather than building from the outside-in, Nike started with the foot’s shape and feel over 90 minutes. The result is a boot that prioritizes internal comfort and support from the ground up.

Internal Quadfit Mesh

The core of the PhantomVSN is a proprietary bootie called Quadfit mesh. Designed to conform to most foot shapes, it contains the foot without constriction and retains its shape over time without overstretching. According to Nike’s Phil Woodman, “Players have long been accustomed to the rigors of breaking in their boots, but the PhantomVSN is match-ready right out of the box.” The mesh’s four axes of fibers provide support in all directions, with fiber separation that distributes load and mitigates friction for an exceptional fit across a wide range of foot structures.

The Collar

While technically a Dynamic Fit collar, it is not referred to as such on the PhantomVSN. Instead, it is integrated into the Quadfit system, creating a seamless “as one” connection between foot and boot. The feel is more like a sock than a traditional collar, with stretch characteristics that enhance the unified fit.

Lacing System: Ghost Lace

Despite appearing laceless, the PhantomVSN features a hidden lacing system called Ghost Lace. Under the tongue cover, the system minimizes touch points and uses a one-pull construction for equal tension across the foot. Laces can be tucked away discretely to provide a clean striking surface. One minor noted challenge: accessing the collar to lace up can be slightly difficult, and replacing deeper laces requires extra effort.

Upper Texture

The upper is heavily textured to improve ball feel. A dominant raised pattern in a triangle-shaped area on the instep is designed to enhance control. Nike Sport Research Lab testing indicates that the lower on the triangle the ball is collected, the greater the degree of control for initiating an attack. Both small-sided and FG versions include ACC (All Conditions Control) coating for weather-proofing.

Traction System

The outsole features a new FEA-informed traction pattern optimized for quick multi-directional cuts. Studs are housed on a lightweight, responsive plate with enhanced zonal support for the foot.

Release Details

The first colorway is the blackout version. Additional releases include “Raised on Concrete” (Grey & Red) and “Young Blood” (Purple). Further details and unboxing content will follow.
