Puma ULTRA 1.1 Prototype: A New Speed Boot for Uncatchable Pace

Puma has introduced the ULTRA 1.1, a dedicated speed boot engineered to replace the hybrid ONE silo. Built around a lightweight MATRYXEVO upper with reactive Kevlar and carbon yarns, the boot aims to offer players an unfair advantage during fast‑forward motion. A GripControl Pro coating enhances touch on the ball, while a running‑inspired Speed Unit outsole completes the package. Early testing reveals a lightweight, textile‑feeling upper and a snug low‑cut knit collar, with a recommended half‑size up for optimal fit.

Design and Technology

The ULTRA 1.1 uses a fully engineered MATRYXEVO upper that combines Kevlar and carbon yarns to provide support during explosive acceleration. A GripControl Pro coating is applied to improve ball command in attacking situations. Underfoot, the boot is fused to a Speed Unit outsole derived from running shoe design, intended to maximize propulsion. The boot weighs 5.2 ounces (size 9 US) and features a low‑cut knit collar that sits securely around the ankle.

Upper Material and Feel

The upper material has a textile-like texture, distinct from standard synthetic or knit constructions. Initial stiffness requires a break‑in period.

Sizing and Comfort

Testers found the boot fits slightly small; a half‑size up from normal is recommended. The collar provides excellent ankle security, and the overall build is notably lightweight.
