Puma has added a new football boot to its ULTRA range with the release of the Ultra 1.2 Speed of Light. The boot introduces MATRYXEVO, a single-layer upper material never before used in a football boot, and combines it with a lightweight outsole designed for explosive acceleration. The latest model continues Puma’s return to the speed category after the evoSPEED line ended in 2017.
Puma’s Return to Speed
The ULTRA range marks Puma’s dedicated re-entry into the speed boot segment. Since discontinuing the evoSPEED series, the brand had not offered a focused speed boot until this launch. The development involved years of testing and feedback from professional attacking players including Sergio Agüero, Nikita Parris, and Antoine Griezmann.

MATRYXEVO Upper
The Ultra 1.2 uses MATRYXEVO, a fully engineered, single-layer material that sits closer to the foot while providing exceptional support and lightweight performance. It is the first football boot to use this material. Roman Girard, Senior Director of Innovation at Puma, explained that integrating all functionality into one layer improves comfort and durability without requiring perforation.
GripControl Pro Skin
A GripControl Pro skin is applied across key areas of the upper to deliver complete control and precise ball grip when moving at extreme speeds.
Pebax SpeedUnit Outsole
The lightweight Pebax SpeedUnit outsole features a bifurcated design inspired by Puma’s stud DNA for dynamic acceleration. It combines subtle triad-shaped studs in the forefoot with V-shaped blades for improved aerodynamics and explosive speed.
