Puma has launched the ULTRA 1.3, the latest iteration of its speed-focused football boot. For the first time, the brand offers both a Unisex and a Women-specific fit, reflecting a commitment to advancing the women’s game. The boot is engineered for explosive straight-line speed and is worn by top players including Antoine Griezmann, Kingsley Coman, Sergio Agüero, Nikita Parris, and Eugénie Le Sommer.
“Faster Football is about driving positive change in football, faster. The new ULTRA is a huge leap forward and is filled with an abundance of innovative new technology. By offering a Unisex and Women-specific fit for the ULTRA, we want to cater to all our athletes.”
– Matthias Bäumer, General Manager BU Teamsport
Key Features of the ULTRA 1.3
Both versions of the ULTRA 1.3 share a re-engineered lightweight MATRYXEVO woven upper that incorporates technical Carbon yarns and transparent Mono yarns. This upper is paired with a new SPEEDCAGE, creating multilayered support for rapid movement. Cut-out transparent windows in the midfoot reduce weight, making the ULTRA 1.3 even lighter than its predecessor, the ULTRA 1.2.
A GripControl Pro skin now coats the entire upper, providing texture for decisive ball control. The Unisex model features an ultra-fast lightweight PEBA SpeedUnit outsole infused with running spike DNA for lightning-fast acceleration. The Women-specific version uses a customized PEBA soleplate with conical studs.
Women-Specific Fit: Design Differences
Puma developed the ULTRA 1.3 with two bespoke performance fits based on research, data, and player feedback.
“Research into the anatomy of the male and female foot, combined with cross comparison fit testing, formed the basis to develop our Women-specific ULTRA. The Women’s-edition features a regular to narrow silhouette shape, a lower instep, reduced midfoot volume and conical studs. By removing more volume from the upper we have created a boot that is more tailored to the anatomical shape of the female foot.”
– Lilly Cocks, Senior Developer Teamsport Footwear
The Women’s edition thus offers a regular to narrow silhouette, a lower instep, and reduced midfoot volume, while the Unisex version retains a more standard fit.
Availability
The Women’s edition was available for pre-sale from the launch date, and the Unisex edition is scheduled for release on July 16.
