PUMA has partnered with electric hypercar maker Rimac Automobili to create the PUMA ULTRA SL, the lightest football boot ever made. Weighing just 90 grams (3.2 oz), the boot is built for elite speed and performance. Only 412 pairs have been produced and released to select retailers worldwide.
A New Era of Lightweight Design
The PUMA ULTRA SL represents a delicate balance of elite-level stability, traction, and lightweight properties, combined with PUMA’s exclusive innovation. The upper is constructed from a super-light woven mesh coated in a thin layer of TPU skin for added durability and touch on the ball. The aerodynamic silhouette includes two ‘windows’ on the heel, directly inspired by the bodywork of the Rimac C_Two. A PEBAX outsole and custom-made, extremely lightweight tooling are engineered to boost acceleration.
Performance and Durability Considerations
Puma’s return to the super-lightweight category is notable. Their previous SL series came with a warning that the boots were only to be worn on match days, with an expected lifespan of 5–10 wears. Player feedback was not very positive, but that has not stopped Puma from giving the category another shot with the ULTRA SL.

On-Pitch Debut with Antoine Griezmann
Antoine Griezmann debuted the lightest boot ever during the UEFA Nations League fixture between France and Croatia in Rimac’s home city, Zagreb, on October 14. He scored in that match, giving the boot an even better debut.
“The objective of the ULTRA SL was to create the fastest, most extreme football boot possible, to give an insight into how football boots could be engineered in the future,” said Dominique Gathier, Head of Product Line Management Teamsport. “We looked at how hypercars are built and transferred these key learnings into the creation of ULTRA SL, with particular focus on how to reduce the weight of the boot whilst maintaining elite-level performance properties.”

The PUMA ULTRA SL is a limited-edition release with only 412 pairs available.
