Saudade House has teamed up with New York-based designer Kevin Leonel to create a custom jacket celebrating Nigeria international Michelle Alozie and the Super Falcons’ tenth Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title at the 2025 WAFCON. The one-of-a-kind piece draws on Nigeria’s footballing heritage, layered with history, culture, and individuality.
A Collaboration to Mark Nigeria’s WAFCON Dominance
Creative studio Saudade House and Kevin Leonel designed the bespoke jacket to honour the Super Falcons’ record-breaking achievement. The project blends football heritage with modern style, reflecting Alozie’s dual identity as a top athlete and a cancer research technician.
Michelle Alozie: Footballer, Scientist, Style Icon
Michelle Alozie, forward for the Houston Dash and Nigeria’s Super Falcons, is the face of the piece. On the pitch she is a fierce competitor; off it she works as a cancer research technician at Texas Children’s Cancer and Haematology Centre. Her personal style has increasingly become a trademark.
“Fashion to me is just so freeing. It allows you to express yourself creatively and authentically,” Alozie said.
A Wearable Archive of Nigerian Football History
The jacket is constructed from repurposed kits that hold personal meaning for Alozie’s national team journey. Kevin Leonel explained the design process:
“For Michelle’s jacket, I pulled from three different eras of Nigeria’s football story: the iconic 1994/95 kit, the 2022/23 design, and the 2025 release. Each carries its own identity, so merging them with a luxury Italian tweed allowed us to create something that honours tradition while pushing modern style. It’s about showing how history and progress can live in the same piece.”
