Legal Context in Spain

Since 21 May 2020, pursuant to Order SND/422/2020 published in the Spanish Official State Gazette (BOE) on 19 May 2020, face masks are mandatory in all public spaces (indoor or outdoor) where a safe distance of two metres cannot be maintained. Exceptions apply to children under six and people with respiratory conditions.

Fines for non-compliance are expected to be around 600 euros, as stated by the Ministry of the Interior. A grace period was implemented during the first days of the Health Order, though no specific end date was given, encouraging immediate compliance despite high summer temperatures.
