Top 5. Historical Reusch gloves

Choosing only five models from Reusch’s extensive historical catalog is a challenge. This selection focuses on the gloves released between 1994 – when I first owned a Reusch – and 2003, the last year the brand featured the signature arrow design.

5. Reusch VB Special – Worn by Vítor Baía

Vítor Baía joined FC Barcelona in 1996 and became one of the first high‑profile goalkeepers in La Liga. His unconventional appearance and spectacular diving style left a lasting impression, but his Reusch gloves were equally striking. The backhand used Baía’s initials to form an arrow, while the finger sections displayed Barcelona’s club colors. This model is now a collector’s item.

4. Reusch Aquakeeper

Seeing goalkeepers such as César Lainez using a blue arrow was a surprise. When the catalog reached me – at a time when the internet was still a mystery – I learned that this glove featured a palm designed specifically for wet‑weather play. It was the first time I had encountered such technology.

3. Reusch Soccer Team 1994

This was my very first Reusch and also my first top‑end glove. It felt revolutionary: a model that performed well in both dry and wet conditions. Saving up for it took months of allowance, and the store assistant was amazed to see a 13‑year‑old paying with a pile of coins.

2. Reusch World Keeper 1998

Andoni Zubizarreta finished his professional career wearing these gloves. His final seasons were not his finest – perhaps he prolonged his retirement – but he remained my goalkeeping role model and inspired my personal style. The World Keeper 1998 was the most popular glove at the France World Cup.

1. Reusch Pro Arrow 1996

Simply the best. Who could forget the Reusch gloves worn by top keepers at EURO 1996? That July ignited my obsession with white gloves. Vítor Baía, Andreas Köpke, Petr Kouba, and Andoni Zubizarreta all used this model, making it extremely famous.
