Finding soccer boots that accommodate wider feet is a growing challenge as brands prioritise streamlined, narrow designs. To help players make an informed choice, we conducted a detailed measurement study of popular wide-fitting models. Using a digital caliper and consistent methodology on size 9 US boots, we calculated key internal dimensions to determine which boots offer the most space. Below, we break down the results and explain what each measurement means for your fit.
How We Measured the Boots
All measurements are in inches. Each boot tested was size 9 US. We used a digital caliper for accuracy and included as many models as possible. Note that internal factors—such as heel padding, internal straps, and soleplate shape—can affect actual fit. Upper material also matters: softer materials (like leather) allow more stretch as your foot presses against the vamp.
Measurements Used
PT1 – The height inside the boot between the upper and soleplate, measured 1.5 inches back from the front wall. A higher number means more space above the foot.
PT2 – The width of the boot at that same point (PT1), indicating how wide the toe box is. Higher number = more room for toes.
PT3 – The widest measurement across the vamp, typically at the ball of the foot. This shows how wide the boot is before you wear it.
PLATE – The soleplate width at its widest point (forefoot, ball of foot). Helps assess comfort and risk of foot overspill.
CAP – Our estimate of available space inside the front cavity (midfoot to toes). Higher number = better chance of fitting wide feet.
LENGTH – Heel-to-toe measurement for overall boot length.
Top 5 Wide Fitting Soccer Boots
#1 – adidas X18+
The adidas X18+ features a high forefoot and a rounded toe box. It offers the most internal space of any boot tested right out of the box. However, the laceless design means the ankle opening is very tight, requiring effort to get your foot in. The synthetic SkeletalWeave upper provides minimal stretch.
- CAP Score: 19.72656
- Max Width: 3.8 inches
- Upper Material: SkeletalWeave
- Weight: 6.6 oz
#2 – Pantofola d’Oro Lazzarini
A classic k-leather boot with a spacious upper and excellent stretch. Each measurement ranks in the top five for its category, making it a well-rounded wide-fitting option.
- CAP Score: 19.69692
- Max Width: 3.8 inches
- Upper Material: K-Leather
- Weight: 11 oz
#3 – Puma King TOP Di
This leather classic offers an accommodating fit with k-leather and plenty of forefoot stitching for additional stretch. It is slightly shorter in length than similar releases, so some players may need to go up half a size. There are thin internal straps that connect the collar to the footbed for a snug midfoot fit.
- CAP Score: 19.621665
- Max Width: 3.73 inches
- Upper Material: Calf Leather
- Weight: 11.5 oz
#4 – adidas Predator 19+
A modern option with a collar similar to the X18+, but with a stretchier opening that is easier to slip into. The ControlSkin upper is pliable and mimics leather, offering some stretch through wear. The soleplate is the widest of all boots tested, providing solid underfoot support.
- CAP Score: 19.458506
- Max Width: 3.91 inches
- Upper Material: ControlSkin
- Weight: 8 oz
#5 – adidas Copa Mundial
Often considered a go-to for wide feet, the Copa Mundial is actually not exceptionally wide. What it does offer is a lot of forefoot space and a k-leather upper that stretches well. However, its soleplate is the fourth thinnest at the widest point, so foot overspill may be an issue for some players.
- CAP Score: 19.3936
- Max Width: 3.68 inches
- Upper Material: K-Leather
- Weight: 11.4 oz
What If None of These Fit?
If you have tried these models without success, use the measurement data to refine your search. For example, if you experience overspill in the Copa Mundial, look for boots with a wider soleplate (check the PLATE column). If a boot like the Nike Hypervenom Phantom felt too snug across your toes, check PT1 to find a boot with higher forefoot space, such as the Puma King TOP Di.
We are continuing to test additional models. If there is a boot you would like us to measure, let us know.
